From Blessed John Paul II

"The question confronting the Church today is not any longer whether the man in the street can grasp a religious message, but how to employ the communications media so as to let him have the full impact of the Gospel message."

  1. I think Blessed John Paul was quite prolific in this statement. He really embraced communication media to reach a much wider audience of all people worldwide during his pontificate. He saw how it could reach to the ends of the earth. I think he also realized the potential for communicating the Gospel in a personalized manner and also the ability for interaction using with media that would foster relationships. The full impact of the Gospel is realized through a deep personal relationship with Christ. The culture is so engaged with communication media and he realized this as a vehicle that can be used to spread the Gospel. I also think that he realized that it was a lost opportunity for the Church not to use media to spread the Gospel message. If the Church can really engage with the use of communications media through the Internet, radio, and television it will lead people to learn about the Good News and to form relationships with other Christians, the Church, and ultimately Christ.
